Marzahn-Hellersdorf

Marzahn- Hellersdorf is the biggest large estate settlement area in Germany. Developed in the 70s and 80s for 250,000 people at the fringe of East-Berlin, the district has undergone a number of interventions in urban design and technical infrastructure to improve living conditions. Being host for the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) in 2017 enlarged the variety of urban green and created a touristic highlight in the area.  Main focus in 2018 will be a further densification for housing and improvements of weak neighbourhoods. The tour provides an insight in the original communist planning layout, illustrates nearly 30 years of adaption since the fall of Berlin Wall and provides an outlook for the coming years.
