Careful urban renewal and redevelopment
Intervention areas for the concept of ‘ careful urban renewal ‘, instrument that reformed planning since the 60-es in West Berlin, are located in the historical districts of the city-centre. These area were developed after the Hobrecht Plan. From 1862 onwards, these urban patterns began to shape the character of the inner city.
The tour explores the planning history and current structure of the quarters and presents key projects of the so-called careful or cautious urban renewal and the IBA 1987 and more recent examples in the districts Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg.
