The City model exhibition of Berlin Senate<\/h1>\n

The model city exhibition of the Senate Administration for Urban Development, Construction and Housing provides a good overview of Berlin’s urban development, new projects and new architecture.<\/p>\n

The two large models of the central area, on a scale of 1:500 and 1:1000, illustrate the construction work carried out since the reunification of the city. The results of the urban design competitions of recent years have also been incorporated. They show the state of urban planning and thus the framework for future investments.<\/p>\n

The central area in Berlin has various tasks. On the one hand, it’s a place of representation for the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany.
\nOn the other hand, distinctive buildings, urban ensembles and designed cityscapes, such as the TV Tower, City Hall, Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island, but also the Tiergarten Park, have a special significance for the identification and the self-image of the citizens of all districts of Berlin.<\/p>\n

Moreover, a planning model from the GDR era shows East Berlin. When compared with the present-day model, it offers a clear picture of how dramatically the city has changed since the Fall of the Berlin Wall<\/span><\/span>, and how capital functions have been reintroduced into the urban fabric.<\/p>\n

There is also an accessible, tactile model of the city centre in the room. Additional information on Berlin\u2019s urban development and its individual areas is available via headsets at the counter.<\/p>\n

The city model exhibition is complemented by a zoning plan, a series of historical black-and-white plans, and aerial photographs that illustrate the centre\u2019s eventful history. Admission is free.<\/p>\n
