“Careful Urban Renewal” is a redevelopment concept of the late 1960s in West Berlin. The intervention areas are located in the historic districts of the city center, which were shaped by the Hobrecht Plan. Since 1862, these urban patterns have been characteristic for the appearance of the inner city.

The tour explores the planning history and current structure of these neighborhoods and presents key projects of so-called careful or cautious urban renewal. We will also visit examples from the International Building Exhibition IBA 1987 and more recent examples in the districts of Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg.
