Large scale housing estates

To alleviate the housing shortage in Berlin, large housing developments were built on the outskirts of Berlin from the 1960s to the 1980s. These include areas like Märkisches Viertel and Gropiusstadt in the former west of Berlin. In the east of Berlin, the housing estates of Marzahn/Hellersdorf and Hohenschönhausen were built. After reunification, structural and technical deficits became apparent.
In recent years, a great deal of money has been invested in modernizing building services, in measures to improve the living environment, in the promotion of local economic structures, and in social integration and neighborhood projects.
Areas and projects to be visited you will be discussed, following your focus of interests.
