Large scale housing estates

To alleviate the housing shortage, large housing developments were built on the outskirts of Berlin from the 1960s to the 1980s. These include the Märkisches Viertel and Gropiusstadt in the west of Berlin. In the east of Berlin, the housing estates of Marzahn/Hellersdorf and Hohenschönhausen were built. After reunification, structural and technical deficits became apparent.
In recent years, a great deal of money has been invested in modernizing building services, in measures to improve the living environment, in the promotion of local economic structures, and in social integration and neighborhood projects.
We will discuss with you which areas and projects you will visit on this tour.
